Context: Attendance at Deacon meetings at the Church
Mentor: Dr. / Pastor Randy Wieland
Date/Time: = May 6 and June 3 from 6:30 - 8:00
Place: Church Youth Center
Duration: 1.5 hours each / Totaling 3 hours in meeting time.
Descriptive Notes: During this meetings, key representatives of the church who look to assist in important areas: Stewardship, Community Outreach, Missions, Care for Creation, etc.. meet to discuss top happenings, celebrations, as well as things that are needing to be addressed. In collaboration with Dr. Wieland, Lead Deacon, Fred Bates, serves as agenda planner and does lead the meeting. Topics discussed during the meetings included the worshiping offering status, the Helping Hand ministry, deacon nominations, as well as events that would be happening at the church during the summer.
Reflective Notes: It is important to have Deacons within the church to assist in providing for the congregational needs and to support Randy in the many facets of his job. Randy, through Fred Bates, has given charge to the Deacons in running and even starting new ministries or growth opportunities for people. As an example, Ron, a licensed contractor from within the church, has put forth work days for people to come together to fix and clean-up the church. With these work days, we are saving money and also bringing people together for a common cause (Building relationships on behalf of Christ). Randy's leadership skill of giving up all control and letting his people do things that are good for the church body and community can be seen within the group of Deacons.
